Mr Andres' Trip to Saudia Arabia

I am in the Kingdom...

We have finally arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was a long day of travel, but everything went well. It is currently 1:55 a.m. and I am inside the Saudi Aramco compound in Dharan. As planned, we flew from Houston to Germany, and then onto Bahrain. Then we bussed over the King Faud Causeway into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. There were many checkpoints to pass through, but everyone was very polite. As we rode on the bus and entered the compound we listened to some Arabic music. It was a nice way to start our journey in the Kingdom.

Causeway: A raised roadway, as across water or marshland.
1. Have any of you every crossed a causeway similar to the King Faud Causeway? Where? When? Why?
2. Share a url address leading to a description, photo, and/or map of the causeway you crossed in your comments so we can compare it to the King Faud Causeway.

Side note:
During my flight from Houston to Germany, I was able sit by a man from India that was flying home to visit his family. He was a mechanical engineer that graduated from Texas A&M. He currently works for a company that does business mainly with the oil companies (including Saudi Aramco). He has lived in the United States for six years and he really enjoys Houston. He and his wife are trying to decide if they should stay in Houston or return to India before they have a child. He was very nice and we were able to have some very interesting discussions pertaining to the United States and India. In fact, when the plane landed, a lady sitting in front of us said she would have loved to take my geography class considering she heard the entire discussion. Remember, when you are traveling to a destination make sure you enjoy the journey. I never thought I would have had the opportunity to learn about India on my way to Saudi Arabia. India is a fascinating place to study due to its history, culture, and population. I cannot wait to study India later this year.

Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a wonderful time with your family and friends. Enjoy your weekend.

Until next time.

Happy Thanksgiving, Aaron. I thought about you today as I ate my turkey. What is the food like over there?

Hello from the Madson family. Glad to hear you made your journey safely. Just by comparison, the current temp here in Delano, MN is 19. We're looking forward to learning about the customs and culture of Saudia Arabia through the eyes of our own personal guide.

I'm encouraged to see the comments on your blog. We're doing our best to spread the word. Keep up the good work.

While you are out exploring the world, your family thought about you all day, while we shared with the rest of the family how thankful we are for what we have.

I was surprised that some people I spoke with said they didn't understand why you weren't celebrating Thanksgiving over in Saudi Arabia. Maybe they didn't really think about it when they said this, but it's interesting to ponder why certain places celebrate certain things. It makes me stop and remember to tell our daughter about the reason why we are celebrating events such as Thanksgiving.

We had the usual food: ham, turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, and of course pie. Everyone there was healthy and in good spirits. Andrew and Mikael were sad you weren't there. They're getting so big and adult-like. Tay enjoyed playing with her cousin Sara. That was REALLY nice to see! It snowed all day today, but it was slow with big flakes...nothing came from it. (I am NOT shoveling while you're gone!) You're mom called later tonight to wish Tay and I a Happy Thanksgiving.

I hope you are getting sleep and are enjoying your first night in The Kingdom! Still can't believe you're there!

Well, Tay and I really miss you. We are going to do our family fun trip tomorrow...Duluth is not like Saudi! We look forward to hearing from you soon!!!!!

Love, me and Tay

You have taken some amazing photos and have had interesting experiences already! Here is a URL of the 7 mile bridge that I crossed this summer in the Florida Keys. Thanks Aaron for all the info!
